#WeekendPlaylist: listen to our favorite songs of the week



Spring is coming and new music is coming with it. Both new and old, familiar and unfamiliar, artists are starting to share news of their upcoming albums. It’s hard to keep up with all the latest releases, so here are some of our favorite new releases to get you started.

Mura Masa – “bbycakes” (featuring Lil Uzi Vert, PinkPantheress & Shygirl)

Mura Masa enlists Lil Uzi, Shygirl and PinkPantheress for his latest single “bbycakes”. The track is bouncy in nature, filled with cute sounding synths. Shygirl brings it all together with an infectious chorus with help from Lil Uzi Vert. The Philadelphia rapper also lends a melodic verse while PinkPantheress shows off with a crisp verse and her unmistakable light delivery.

Mahalia – “Letter to Ur Ex”

Mahalia effortlessly sings “Letter to Ur Ex” to escape a dramatic relationship. The track begins with a soft strumming of an electric guitar, about halfway through the song the song transitions into a more dramatic string section and small kicks.

Tinashe – “Naturally”

Tinashe displays her versatility on “Naturally”. The freelance singer shares lush vocals throughout the track, including an infectious hook that will have you humming the chorus after three minutes.

Shenseea – “RU That” (featuring 21 Savage)

Jamaican singer Shenseea’s unwavering flow sets the tone for her first all-English rap song ‘RU That’. She asks a potential partner questions and 21 Savage brings out his singing voice to answer on the upbeat track.

Baby Tate – “What is Love”

Rapper Baby Tate shows off her vocals over a relaxing R&B beat on “What’s Love.” If Baby Tate’s serious lyrics and vibrant vocals are any indication of her range as an artist, then she’s just beginning.

Curren$y and The Alchemist – “Louis Baggage” (with Babyface Ray)

The Alchemist created a crisp, jazzy environment with soft guitar riffs and soft cymbals on “Louis Baggage”. Curren$y starts the track with a responsive storyline. The rapper’s determined tone cuts through the jazzy production with ease. Babyface Ray follows up with a powerful verse on humble beginnings before the track fades.

Beach House – “It Hurts to Love”

Retro synths set the tone for this nostalgic Beach House track. Even with short and simple lyrics, every line is thoughtful, evoking feelings of happier times. Beach House’s airy, airy vocals help make “Hurts to Love” so poignant.

Silk Sonic – “The Love Train”

If you’re not familiar with Silk Sonic yet, you might want to get out of the rock you’re hiding under. Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars form an electrifying duo, the two decide to cover Con Funk Shun’s 1982 song Love’s Train. It does not disappoint.

Orange Rex County – “INCREDIBLE”

Rex Orange County’s latest single “AMAZING” is a heartwarming love song that has all the ingredients for a summery, nostalgic track.

Lucky Daye – “NWA” (featuring Lil Durk)

Lucky Daye taps Lil Durk for his latest single “NWA.” The fun, bouncy record reminds listeners of Drake’s viral song “Hotline Bling.” Lil Durk delivers a short but stellar verse while Lucky Daye chooses to mesmerize listeners with lyrics about being a big hit.
