Dhee is currently overseen by Maajja who is also creating her upcoming debut collection in English. “They (Maajja) asked me if I needed to make a tune for the celebration of Yaall (Maajja’s music festival), and I thought it would be great to accomplish something in Tamil. Arivu and I needed to team up [for some time]; he is just an amazing performer and appa (Santhosh) was attentive to the point of delivering that,” says the singer, who has sung tracks in films like Madras, Irudhi Suttru, Soorarai Pottru and the upcoming Jagame Thandhiram.
The music video for ‘Appreciate Enjaami’, shot in the old neighborhood of Arivu in the Tiruvannamalai region, is the “very first time” that 22-year-old Dhee has been recorded on camera for a free track. As a rule, the artist shy in front of the camera was anxious.
Her first collection is expected to come out before the end of the current year; in any case, a few pieces of the collection will be delivered, she guarantees. Dhee isn’t complicated, but she hints that the tracks will be “contemporary jazz related to different things.”
On it being in English, she adds, “I want to write in Tamil, but it would probably take me five to 10 years to learn Tamil. I can communicate in the language but not compose innovatively. Maybe I will one day.
One would expect life to have changed a bit for Dhee since delivering “Unruly Baby”; the movie track Maari 2, which she sang alongside Dhanush, is the most viewed Tamil tune on YouTube with over a billion views.
