The National Recording Registry receives approximately 1,000 public nominations per year. The two classic rock songs were among 25 recordings the Library’s National Recording Preservation Board selected for induction this year. Lead singer of Longtime Journey Steve Perrywho comes from a Portuguese immigrant family, was thrilled to receive the honour.
“It is the greatest honor of my life,” he said in a statement. “I got platinum albums and gold albums and was inducted into the [Rock and Roll] Hall of Fame. But to my mom, dad, grandma, and grandpa, I’m really beside myself for this to happen…it’s a ‘only in America’ kind of thing.”
Queen has yet to comment on the Library of Congress distinction. The 1975 release of genre-bending “Bohemian Rhapsody” represented a major turning point in the band’s history.
The song stayed at No. 1 for nine consecutive weeks in the UK – a record at the time – and it was Queen’s first Top 10 hit in the US, signaling a major change in fortune for the group. in America.
