Musically ubiquitous, Charlton Singleton – conductor, jazz trumpeter, educator, singer, Ranky Tanky member, church organist – is now releasing a new album called “Date Night”, full of original love songs.
The disc will be available to stream and for sale starting Friday, July 3, for $ 9.99 on all digital music platforms, such as Apple Music, Amazon and Tidal.
“It’s a slightly different road than what people have heard from my other outings,” Singleton said. “It’s definitely on the side of contemporary Smooth Jazz / R & B. “
The record was produced by Calvin Baxter, who also plays drums, and stars local musicians David Grimm and Greg Loney on guitars, LaVonta Green on bass, and Demetrius Doctor on keyboards. Singleton plays the trumpet and sings.
The first four arias are instrumental; the last four are vocals and originate from the 1990s, but were reworked in the studio, Singleton said. The project took years: monitoring started in 2017.
“’Date Night’ has a song for just about any situation on the night,” Singleton said.
Well maybe not all situation …
