So many artists, so many songs, so little time. Every week we review a handful of new albums (from all genres), round up even more new music we’d call “indie” and talk about what metal comes out. We post music news, track premieres and more all day. We are updating a weekly playlist of some of our current favorite tracks. Here is a daily summary with a bunch of interesting and recently released songs in one place.
CANDY – “SHIT WORLD”
Candy shared the third single from her long-awaited new album paradise is here, and it’s the most direct hardcore song released from the album so far, but still with a ragged and loud edge to it. This is another very promising taste.

KIDS POOL – “I HOPE YOU ARE RIGHT”
Yesterday Florida emo band Pool Kids announced a tour in support of Origami Angel, and today they shared the second single from their upcoming self-titled album. Like the first single “That’s Physics, Baby”, this one finds the band abandoning their punky emo roots in favor of polished indie pop.

CONAN – “LEVITATION PANE”
British doomers Conan have announced a new album, Proof of Immortalitydue out August 19 via Napalm Records, and they still sound so punishing on new single “Levitation Hoax.”

OIL GIRLS – “PEACHERS”
British punk rockers Petrol Girls have shared a new track from the upcoming LP Babeand it’s another hater that singer Ren Aldridge says is “my way of getting rid of that preachy, holy, holier-than-you vibe that you sometimes get in radical left-wing communities.”

THE DEER – “I WILL NOT RECOGNIZE MYSELF”
Indie folk/dream pop band The Deer have announced a new album, The handsome undead, scheduled for September 9 via Keeled scales. Lead single “I Wouldn’t Recognize Me” is fueled by a guitar melody that borrows more than a little from Neil Young’s “Hey Hey, My My,” and it’s a beautiful, airy song that singer Grace Rowland calls a letter to his younger self.

HIVE – “THUS IT’S DONE”
Minnneapolis crust/D-beat band HIVE have announced a new album, Spiritual Povertydue out August 19 via Translation Loss, and it’s a hard, metallic ripper that guitarist/vocalist said is about “the relationship between master and slave in the American political system”. Listen on no echo.

JOE ARMON-JONES & ASHEBER – “UNARMED”
British jazz musician and member of the Ezra Collective Joe Armon-Jones launches into reggae with new song ‘No Weapon’, a track made to honor the victims of the Grenfell Tower fire that took place there is five years old, with vocals written and performed by Niles ‘Asheber’ Hailstones, a resident of the affected area. There is also a version dubbed by Jerry Lionz.

LSDXOXO – “DEMONS” (ft. EARTHEATER)
Pop experimenters LSDXOXO and Eartheater have come together for a new song, and it’s as quirky and weirdly appealing as you’d expect from these two.

GHOSTFACE KILLAH & RAEKWON – “WE DIDN’T COME TO LOSE”
New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge The game releases Thursday (6/16), and the soundtrack will feature this loud, brash, and fun new song from Wu-Tang members Ghostface and Raekwon.

BLACK MAGNET – “FLOATING IN NOTHING”
Industrial actor Black Magnet has announced his second album, body prophecydue out July 29 via 20 Buck Spin, and lead single “Floating In Nothing” is dark, caustic and loud but still with bright underlying melodies that make it stick right away.

GWENNO – “ANIMA”
“Anima”, the latest seductive single from Gwenno’s upcoming album Treasure is accompanied by stunning, appropriately animated video by Ted Davies. “Influenced by the collage art of 60s animation (Yellow Submarine, Fantastic Planet), I imagined iterations of Gwenno traversing the world of Anima and the unconscious, reconciling the known and the unknown while throughout the play,” Ted explains. “I animated fluidly with little planning, merging found footage with collage cutouts and 2D animation in a sporadic fashion, allowing the narrative to find its way to a natural crescendo and conclusion.

LA LUZ – “SAN FERNANDO SHADOW BLUES”
Here’s the B-side to La Luz’s new single “Endless Afternoon” which is the most explicit surf thing this band has done in a while, through “Hazy Shade of Winter.”

SIMPLE MINDS – “VISION THING”
The big names in Scottish rock are set to release a new album direction of the heart in October. “How do you make an ‘Electro-rock’ record that feels good, in the worst times?” Asks leader Jim Kerr? “direction of the heart is the result of this challenge. Who would have thought that we would have so much fun creating it? The first single still finds them in thin, widescreen form.

NINA NASTASIA – “AFTER”
Nina Nastasia’s first album in 12 years, Horse without a rider, due out July 22 via Temporary Residence, and the latest single is the haunting acoustic “Afterwards.” “I don’t believe in ghosts…so far, but the dead can stay longer,” Nina says. “They can tell you what to do and stop you from doing it. I have no interest in finding out that ghosts exist. In fact, I really hope they don’t. Things are complicated enough.”

JAYWOOD – “SHINE” (FT. MCKINLEY DIXON)
“I don’t think I’ve ever felt more activated or more militant than in the summer of 2020,” says Jeremy Haywood-Smith, speaking of this new single from JayWood. “It was an exhausting time but I wanted to try and do something to comment on everything that was going on. As soon as the idea came up to do a hip hop song, I knew I had to get McKinley [Dixon] above. The way he writes is so wild that I felt inspired to do something on that level as well.” JayWood’s album slingshot will be released on July 15 via Captured Tracks.

ART MOORE – “A DIFFERENT LIFE”
Art Moore, the trio of Boy Scouts bandmates Taylor Vick and Ezra Furman, Sam Duerkes and Trevor Brooks, will release their self-titled debut album on August 5 via ANTI-. “A Different Life” basks in a dreamy and melancholy atmosphere. “A Different Life was inspired by the experience of dreaming up another version of your life,” Vick says. “I can easily get caught up in the imaginary worlds of my head, overwhelmed by the endless possibilities and the versions of me that exist within them. But I’m mostly fascinated by the version just parallel to this one, the one with only a few differences or improvements. This song is about experiencing the nostalgia of a not-so-distant possibility.”

DENDRONS – “WAIT IN LINE”
Chicago band Dendrons will release a new album 5-3-8 on August 26 via via Innovative Leisure. The new single “Wait in Line” is both sharp and contemplative. Singer-guitarist Dane Jarvie says he’s “influenced by ‘The Lottery in Babylon’, a short story by magical realism author, Jorge Luis Borges. Dealing with the role chance is supposed to play in life, and a political and socio-economic system that operates and revolves around this variable as dogma, followed by its subsequent corruption. In many ways, it is a critique of the human tendency to claim dominance over nature and to profit anyway.

UNNECESSARY USERS – “I AM FORTEN WRECK”
Useless Eaters are made up of members of indiepop bands Action Painting!, Secret Shine and Even As We Speak and make more aggressive music than you might expect with that pedigree and can hear on this single. their album, We are allreleases July 3.

FREEDY JOHNSTON – “MADELINE’S EYES”
Veteran singer-songwriter Freedy Johnston will release his ninth album Back on the road to you in September and it features appearances from Aimee Mann, Susanna Hoffs and more.

ΣTELLA – “NOMAD”
Greek artist Σtella releases his debut album for Sub Pop this week and here’s a taste before it all goes down. The music video for “Nomad”, shot aboard a fishing boat, fits perfectly with the wandering spirit of the song.

DRY CLEANING – “DON’T PRESS ME”
British band Dry Cleaning will release their second album, Filling, in October via 4AD. Here is the first single.

CONCERNS – “RICOCHET”
Calgary band Concerns will release their fourth album, Provisions, on September 9 via Flemish Eye. Here is the first single.

THE SWEET MOON – “HIM”
Luis Vasquez is back with To exist, his first album as The Soft Moon in four years, which will be released September 23 via Sacred Bones. He made the album after leaving Berlin and moving to Joshua Tree, California during the lockdown. “I always complained that I never had enough freedom to do whatever I wanted,” Vasquez says. “This time I literally had everything at my disposal.”

JOCKSTRAP – “GLASGOW”
British duo Jockstrap (Georgia Ellery and Taylor Skye) will release their debut album, I love you Jennifer B., in September via Rough Trade. Here is the first single.

ERASE – “BASED ON A TRUE STORY”
He’s just the smallest of the likes of Erasure’s unusual, collage-like new album.

PSYCHIC DISEASES AND GIBBY HAYNES – FRKWYS 4.5
Based on a six-hour improv jam between Psychic Ills and Gibby Haynes of Butthole Surfers from 2009, the music was eventually edited to album length and will be released in July. Listen to three tracks now.
