The festival of colors is just one day away and all Holi enthusiasts have started their preparations to celebrate the auspicious festival. BSF staff also couldn’t help but celebrate the festival.
BSF officers celebrated Holi with colors by singing songs and dancing in Gajansoo area of Jammu. In the video shared by news agency ANI, the officers could be seen playing musical instruments, tossing the colors in the air and dancing while singing festival songs.
Celebrated with traditional fervor and enthusiasm across the country, Holi is a time for family and friends to come together and rejoice in the spirit of the spontaneous and joyful celebration of life.
The tales of mythology tell the origins of this festival which is celebrated with colors, forgetting social differences and having fun. With vibrant gulal colors that make the air jazzy, Holi is also a festival where people savor a range of luscious sweet dishes.
During this time, people performed Holika Dahan, a ritual that symbolizes the victory of good over evil, in Amritsar and many other places across the country.
In Uttarakhand, Holi celebrations are called Kumaoni Holi. Going by the name, it is obvious that the celebrations take place in the Kumaon region of Uttarakhand. The common names of the festival are Kahila Holi, Khadi Holi and Baithaki Holi. Hola Mohalla, a popular three-day fair observed at the Shri Anandpur Sahib in Punjab, is a big festive event for Sikhs all over the world.
On the other hand, Lathmar Holi of Uttar Pradesh is one of the most famous Holi celebrations taking place across the country. In the regions of Barsana, Mathura and Vrindavan, known as the cities of Radha and Krishna respectively, Holi begins at Basant Panchami and continues for over a month.
While, with great excitement and anticipation, the people of Maharashtra celebrate ‘Rang Panchami’ or ‘Shigma’. The festivities begin after sunset on Purnima with Holika Dahan, symbolizing the victory of good over evil. The next day, people apply gulal and spray water on each other. The celebrations are incomplete without the preparation of ‘Puran Poli’, a sweet buttery flatbread made of chana dal with the stuffing of jaggery, coconut, cardamom and butter or ghee.
