Brett Eldredge brought fun to ABC hello america on Wednesday June 28 performing “Songs About You”, her latest single and the title track of her new album.
Although fast-paced, the song details the arduous process of trying to get over a past relationship. As Eldredge sings, when the Melody character begins to move forward, a song reminds him of his ex-lover and the memories come flooding back. The song’s production contrasts with the bittersweet story, however, offering upbeat and jazzy instrumentation.
Eldredge sang the song CMG while moving on stage and interacting with his band, for an energetic start to the morning.
Eldredge chatted with the hello america hosts in an interview after the performance, in which he spoke about what makes his songs about you single album.
“It’s very raw. The record is very stripped down,” he says. “Some of the songs I wrote in Montana, and you can hear the fire crackling in the background. It’s just the guitar and the vocals…I love it when it’s this honest and real and heartfelt , and I think that was the real victory in this case.”
Eldredge also spoke with the hosts about being uncle to his newborn nephew, who he debuted on Instagram earlier this week.
“Life update…I’m an uncle now and I’m here to spoil this little guy and sing all the hiccups,” he wrote, alongside a video of him singing “Mean to Me.” to his nephew.
songs about you includes 12 tracks, including “Holy Water”, which he recently performed on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He recently told Taste of Country how many of the songs on the album stem from his ongoing journey to good mental health.
Eldredge will continue its songs about you Filmed Friday, July 22 in Saratoga, CA.
